Characterization and results of application of the rock feldespática of the sector "Cajigal" in the ceramic industry
Main Article Content
Abstract
As part of the research project that IGP-SGC executed during the period 2022-2023 and also taking into account the Call for the Geology Plan-2022, the summary of the geological information, chemical characterization and thin sections is shown, as well as the technological results (cast button) that were achieved in technological samples of feldspathic rocks from the “Canasí” Prospect (Cajigal Sector) in the province of Mayabeque, all with the objective of assessing the possible substitution (partial or total) of the matter feldspathic raw material that is currently used by the Cuban-Vietnamese joint company SANVIG S.A in the manufacture of ceramic floors (gress slabs). The descriptions of the petrographic thin sections showed that the feldspathic rock of the aforementioned sector constitutes a leucocratic tonalite (quartz diorite) of mineral composition plagioclase (labradorite, 90%), quartz (6%), amphiboles (3%) and minerals of alteration (sericite, epidote, clays), the latter in the order of 1% respectively. The result of the industrial test allowed us to corroborate that such rocks can be used in the production of gress slabs, partially or totally replacing the feldspar from the “El Purnio” deposit, however, given that the rocks are hard and compact, they would need Therefore, a prior process of grinding and granulometric classification, however, the proximity of said raw material to the aforementioned Company would mean considerable savings in terms of transportation. Finally, the geological resources in the aforementioned sector were estimated in the Inferred Category, consequently, it was recommended to raise the degree of study thereof to Measured + Indicated through the execution of the corresponding Exploration Project.
